Macey Thompson's Tales

I have recently become obsessed with collecting books for my future elementary classroom. I look forward to creating an online library of some of my favorites and planning how I will use each book in my classroom.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle

This text offers vivid illustrations that are appealing to a reader's eye.The story does a great job of incorporating sequence in a fun and meaningful way. Also, the text offers a valuable lesson on the life cycle of a butterfly. I see myself reading this book in an elementary classroom when discussing both sequencing and life cycles. After reading this book, I would like to let my children role play the life cycle of a butterfly by pretending to eat the same things as the caterpillar. Once the children have finished eating, I would wrap them in a sheet like a cocoon and allow them to push out of the cocoon like the butterfly did at the end of the story. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is on a 2.9 AR level.
